As you can see, there are changes taking place in my racing world.
All my 44 years I have been involved in some way, shape or form in auto racing. As a fan, crew member, driver, promoter and quasi-journalist for lack of better terms in building Microracing.com in 1997 that I still am proud of today and believe it was the start of the growth of micro sprint racing in the United States from coast to coast. It continues still, sold but in good hands and keeps the micro racing world in the forefront.
I've changed directions a little bit. Ok, a lot of bit. The last race I ran was in the Legends division at Lincoln Speedway on Memorial Day Weekend in 2007. With the birth of my children in 2008 and 2007, of course your priorities have to change. As any family on a budget finds, your priorities need to be set and that means God first, family second.....and racing somewhere after that. Dabbling in the Legend series after my last micro sprint ride in 2004 was fun and something I would entertain again. Hell, I'd race a big wheel if that was all that was left. With the price of micro sprint racing getting higher, the Legends are a good alternative. Fun, relatively cheap to race and I still got to race tracks the promoters gave up on with micros years ago, at least the 270's. But being a racer, I also worked on the race cars. Have to be honest, I ran open wheel so long, I always knew I could race a Legends car; but it's night and day in working on them vs. a micro sprint and rolling your sleeves up. You need to depend on someone else in the shop and at the track. With the micro sprint, I could do everything myself. Don't mind saying it is humbling having the tables turn. The advice I gave in micros to newer drivers was a completely reversed situation when I raced Legends. I was the one asking for all the help.
I know there isn't much here right now. I'm still trying to find what options I have and direction I want to go in the aspects of my racing career. I still know my priorites but want to find room for both. I still wanted to maintain a website to let the racing world I know I'm still around and still want to race. As of now, I have sold everything except my helment and my suit. But I hope not to stay idle for long. I think I still have a lot to offer, especially in the micro sprint venue, and much to newer, younger teams looking for the help they need to move to the next level. As far as driving ability I am still confident in every way in any car. I think I've shown that since 1995. If you need a driver, crew chief, technical help or any help for that matter, I'd like to start my comeback here and now. I miss the racing world, competition, friends made and helping others as I did before in open wheel. Please browse the site and check out some of the ideas and services I can offer and see if they may be a fit for your needs. As always since my MicroRacing.com days, there is an opinion forum of my own. Just can't leave well enough alone, and even though my name has not been out there for a while doesn't mean I haven't been paying attention to what's been happening!
As always, your feedback is important. I will still continue to have the Paul Fitzsimmmons Racing Team exist, so I suppose this is like a makeover show, if anything. Stay tuned.
Be safe,
Paul
